It has been 58 years since a Macon baseball team has claimed a championship.
Back in 1962, Pete Rose and the Macon Peaches claimed the SALLY League Championship. Since then, every Macon team has come up short.
Now, the Macon Bacon, in a year where baseball was found in little to no places, got it done.
The Bacon defeated the Bananas 6-5 in the Southern Summer Ball Series Championship on Sunday, August 16th.
The Bacon took a 6-0 lead early thank to a Josh Hood (PENN) home run.
The Bananas made things interesting with scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to make it 6-4.
For the rest of the game, it was a pitchers duel.
The top of the 9th came around, and the Bananas were able to put another on the board to make it 6-5.
Runner were on the corner when the Bacon were able to turn a classic 6-4-3 double play to win the game.
