The Savannah Bananas powered their way to a seven-inning victory Wednesday night in game one of a double-header, 8-5. Georgia College right-hander Forrest Wilson was knocked around in an abbreviated four inning start, allowing five runs, all earned, on four hits and three walks.
The Bananas got started in the third by taking advantage of a throwing error by Wilson with two runners on base. They scored two off the error, one of the error itself, and one on a subsequent sacrifice fly, by Daryl Myers.
The Bacon were resilient Wednesday, coming back from many deficits. This started in the fourth, when MJ Rookard and Zach Cornell teamed up to drive in two to tie the game in the third.
In the fourth, Savannah’s Cody Heffron knocked a solo home run to left, but the lead was short lived, as Cory Bivins singled in Nathan Schreckengost, who finished 3-4. ‘
The Bananas loaded the bases in the 5th and cashed in, chasing Wilson out of the game, and driving the lead to 5-3. They would not relinquish the lead, scoring three more times, and taking game one, 8-5.
With the win, Savannah extended the lead in the South Division to 2 games, and the Bacon fell to 3-3.
