On Friday and Saturday (August 21st and August 22nd), the Bacon took on the Bananas in Round 2 and 3 of the Breakfast Bowl Series. The Bananas again had the Bacon’s number, defeating them 10-4 and 15-5.
Friday, August 21st, Bacon Alumni Cory Bartholomew took the mound for the Bacon. Bartholomew went 4 complete innings with 4 strike outs and no earned runs on the night.
The scoring didn’t start until the 3rd inning when Brandin Johnson scored on a wild pitch and Beau Spears scored off a double from Cole Gaylord.
After 6 innings, the Bacon found themselves up 3-1 thanks to another wild pitch where Cole Brannen would score.
The Bacon then gave up 6 runs in the 8th and that was enough to put the Bacon away 10-4.
Brandin Johnson and Cole Gaylord would be the only extra base hits had by the Bacon in the game.
Saturday, August 22nd, the Bacon were in Savannah where Dylan Dupree had the start. His night would be short as he would only go 1.1 innings giving up 4 earned run.
The Bananas got off to a quick start scoring 7 runs in just 2 innings. But the Bacon were able to keep up with Smith scoring off a few errors by the Bananas in the 2nd.
A few errors and hit by pitches later in the 4th, the Bacon made it 8-4.
The Bacon ran out of gas when Savannah notched the 15th run in the bottom of the 7th.
Cole Gaylord had the lone extra base hit and an RBI on the night.
The Bacon are home Thursday, August 27th for Round 4.
