The Macon Bacon got back on track Friday night, unleashing an early attack against the Savannah Bananas to earn win number eight in the Battle for the Golden Spork.
Jack Conlon was the starter for the Bananas, and the former fourth round draft pick was touched up for the second straight outing. Calvin Estrada batted a run-scoring double to the wall in right field to put the Bacon up in the first. He was not done.
In the third, Estrada’s at bat was short. The first pitch by Conlon was down Main Street, and Estrada punched it out of Grayson Stadium. His fifth home run of the season tied a Bacon season high set last year by Brandon Michie.
Macon chased Conlon in the inning, with RBIs from Danny Harris, Josh Nowak, and Ben McConnell to take a resounding 6-0 lead after three.
The early runs were plenty for Chace Harris. Harris earned his fifth win of the summer, throwing five scoreless. Harris was wild all night, but Harris stranded seven Savannah Bananas on base. The Bananas and Bacon traded blows late, but the game was all but decided.
The Bacon return home on Saturday to host the Gastonia Grizzlies for the second time in 2019. It will be a battle of two of the top five in the CPL. First pitch is at 6pm on CPLBaseball.TV
