The Macon Bacon took the trip down I-16 for the first time in the second half, fresh off a win. They were rudely welcomed back to Savannah, losing 7-0 to the Bananas in Game 13 of the Battle for the Golden Spork.
Preston Sparks entered Saturday with a chance to further lower his tiny 2.02 ERA, but the Bananas did not comply. The Bananas got one run on a groundout in the second, but the first large blow of many for Savannah was a two-run homer off the bat of Gabe Howell to make the score 3-0 in the third.
Savannah got two more two-run home runs in the fourth and the sixth to cruise to a victory.
Savannah starter Dustin Saenz continued to impress in the CPL with six scoreless innings. He has not allowed a run though his first 20 innings as a Banana. The shutout was Savannah’s sixth of the year, but only the first of the year for the Bacon, who lead the South Division in runs.
The Bacon have two nights off and return to action at Luther Williams versus the Lexington County Blowfish on Tuesday
