Behind some dominant pitching performances and a couple timely home runs, the Macon Bacon cruised to a 6-0 victory over the Savannah Bananas on Monday night.
The win was the Bacon’s first over their arch-rival this season.
Dalton Smith earned credit for the win, going two hitless innings while striking out two.
Ty Bothwell got the start on the mound for Macon and blazed through four tremendous innings in just 54 pitches thrown. The Indiana Hoosier tallied seven strikeouts, no walks and only allowed one hit before handing the ball off to Smith. Bothwell was awarded the Coastal Plain League’s “Line of the Night” following the game.
Braxton Kelley, Austin Hohm, and Jack Sinclair all tossed a scoreless inning for the Bacon as well. As a staff, Bacon pitchers whiffed 14 Banana batters, did not allow a walk or a run, and only gave up a total of three hits to a Bananas offense that had come in averaging just under eight runs per game.
A two-run Robert Brooks home run and a solo Jake Gitter blast highlighted the offensive effort for Macon. Tyler Williams and R.J. Yeager also contributed RBIs.
The Bacon have an off-day on Tuesday and will return to action on Wednesday at 7:00pm against Lexington County at home.
