Freddy Achecar (BYU) hit a 3-run homer off the scoreboard in the third inning to power the Macon Bacon to a 6-3 win over the visiting Lexington County Blowfish at Luther Williams Field on Friday night.
Achecar finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs, also drawing a walk. Austin Hohm (USC Aiken) was credited with the win after going two innings with no hits allowed and three strikeouts.
Macon jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Cash Young (Georgia College) singled and scored Cole Gambill (BYU).
Lexington County responded with a Brennan Milone two-run home run to make it 2-1 in the second frame and then added to their advantage by scoring Wes Clarke on a Bacon error.
However, the home team would do the rest of the scoring. Achecar’s three-run blast made it 4-3 in the third inning, and the Bacon first baseman picked up his fourth RBI of the night when he knocked a base hit into right field to score Tyler Williams (Arkansas-Little Rock).
In the sixth inning, Jake Gitter (Northern Colorado) blasted his second home run of the season to supply an insurance run, and the Bacon pitching staff handled the rest.
From the third inning on, Lexington County did not record a single hit thanks to the efforts of Hohm, Brayden Eidson (Kennesaw State), Ty Bothwell (Indiana), and Jack Sinclair (UCF).
Sinclair earned the save, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Bacon will be back in action on Saturday night to take on the Savannah Bananas at Grayson Stadium.
