Bacon Win Big On Star Wars Night: June 21st

The Macon Bacon waved their lightsabers with authority on Star Wars Night, unleashing a multi-inning attack on Savannah Bananas pitching, taking game nine of the Battle for the Golden Spork, 9-3.

Preston Sparks took the hill for the Bacon, making his fourth start of the season. He entered the game with an ERA of 1.71, good for fourth in the CPL.

The Bananas took no time to raise Sparks’ ERA, knocking in two runs in the top of the first off of Sparks. But Sparks pitched well after the rough first, pitching through trouble through seven innings, allowing only three runs.

Macon got on the board in each of the first four innings, jumping out to a 6-3 lead after the fourth.

Unlike previous wins, Friday’s win came via multiple sources. Every playing the Bacon lineup had a hit or an RBI, contributing to the win. Six Macon batters finished with an RBI.

MJ Rookard(1-4) and Jared Miller(2-5) both finished with a hit, extending each of their hitting streaks to eight games.

In the sixth, Roury Glanton pummelled a hanging curveball from Brayden Belden out beyond the fence in left field. The two-run bomb put the finishing touches on the 9-3 win.

Macon won their fifth straight game, moving the Bacon into a tie for first place in the Coastal Plain League. The win also gives the Bacon the outright lead in the South Division for the first time in 2019.
