In the last game of the first half in the CPL, the Macon Bacon did everything they could to lock up a first half title, winning 11-5.
The sixth game of the season between the Bacon and the RedWolves was a wild see-saw of a game.
It all started before the game, when Florence starting pitcher Boyce Kobleur was a last-minute scratch. Saturday was the sixth game that Florence played in five days, and the exhausted bullpen was thrust into action from the get-go.
In a shock, the surprise starter Culver Hughes dueled with Macon starter Preston Sparks – after five frames, the RedWolves led 1-0. But the floodgates of offense were about to be released.
The Bacon scored ten times over the final four innings, started by a Cal Gentry double into right field that scored Daniel Harris. Gentry scored three batters later on a wild pitch.
Eight more runs would score over the next three innings, propelling the Bacon to their 17th win of the year.
The Savannah Bananas locked up the division with a shutout win at last place Lexington County.
The Macon Bacon finishes the first half of the season just .5 games behind the Savannah Bananas, who will host the divisional round of the Petitt Cup playoffs.
