Eggs Fry Bacon in 12-5 Win – July 12th

The Macon Eggs raced out to a 7-0 lead after the first two innings and never looked back, cruising to a 12-5 victory over the Macon Bacon at Luther Williams Field on Sunday night.

With the win, the Eggs even up the season series with the Bacon at 1-1.

Austin Hohm (USC Aiken) was credited with the win on the mound.

The Eggs were off and running from the jump, with Tyler Williams (Arkansas-Little Rock) reaching on a hit-by-pitch, stealing second, advancing to third on a groundout, and then coming home on a wild pitch. Austin Deming (BYU) then singled to bring in Robert Brooks (Columbus State) and Billy Hancock (Mount Marty) recorded a sacrifice fly that scored Carson Crowe (Jacksonville State).

In the second inning, it was more of the same for the “visiting” Eggs. Trevor Austin (Mercer) scored from third on a Bacon error and Deming singled again to bring in Brooks, Josh Hood (UPenn) picked up an RBI single with a shot into left field that scored Crowe, and Hancock rounded out the Eggs scoring in the second frame with a base hit that brought home Deming from third. Just like that, it was 7-0 Eggs.

After the Eggs picked up another run in the third frame to make it 8-0, the Bacon plated all five of their runs in the home half of the inning. After Cash Young (Georgia College) grounded out to score Andrew Greckel (Appalachian St) from third base, Freddy Achecar (BYU) scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded. Will Olson (Augustana) then pulled the Bacon to as close as they would get with a towering three-run home run that cleared the fence in left field, bring the score to 8-5 in favor of the Eggs.

Another Deming RBI single and two runs driven in on Austin base hits rounded out the scoring for the Eggs. Deming would finish 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs, while Austin would end up going 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs.

Gage Vailes (Kennesaw State) took the loss on the mound for the Bacon. Braxton Kelley (Ohio) and Mikade Johnson (BYU) both threw two innings each of scoreless relief for the Eggs.

The Bacon will have an off-day tomorrow before their home game against the Savannah Bananas on Tuesday night at 7:00pm.
