While the Macon Bacon season is starting at the end of May, Luther Williams Field is getting some great baseball played on it before the Bacon begin. Georgia High School Association has selected Luther Williams Field in Macon to host not just one, but two high school state championships, along with four other sites. The games will be held from May 20th to May 22nd.
“We are excited to bring two of the high school state championship games to the Middle Georgia community.” said Team President Brandon Raphael, “Getting a chance to host some of the best high school baseball teams at our field is a great honor and what better place than Luther Williams Field.”
Luther Williams Field has hosted many high school baseball games before over the years. Since the 90-year-old ballpark has seen a 2.5-million-dollar renovation last season and the new edition of the Game On Training Kids Zone, GHSA wants to bring some of the state championship games here.
“The GHSA is excited to host part of the State Championship at Macon’s Historic Luther Williams Field.” said GHSA Associate Director, Don Corr.
Four teams total will play during the three-day span. Monday, May 20th, one series will play a double header. If the teams split, they will play one game on Wednesday, May 22nd. The same will occur on Tuesday, May 21st. If those two teams split, they will also play that Wednesday.
“We are going to treat these games as if it was a Macon Bacon game.” said Raphael, “There will be entertainment, full blown concessions except for alcohol and out of this world customer service.”
The teams will be announced 10 days out from the championship dates.
Tickets for the games will be $13. Hospitality areas such as the PMC Party Deck, We Care Cabana Suites and Right Field Group Area are also available for the games through the Macon Bacon office.
