The Florence RedWolves defended their home turf on Tuesday night in Florence, SC, tacking on late runs to defeat the Macon Bacon, 6-2.
The Bacon offense came into Tuesday night hot, scoring 23 runs in their past three games. Right fielder Zach Cornell got the Bacon scoring started with a double to leadoff the fourth, and scored on a single by Nathan Schreckengost. Cory Bivins knocked in second baseman Cole Blatchford to give the Bacon the lead, 2-1, in the fourth.
But that would be all that the Bacon would get off of the RedWolves pitching. The RedWolves responded in the bottom of the fourth with two runs on five hits, and did not look back.
Grey Epps tied the game with a double, and then shortstop Miguel Soto knocked in Epps for the lead.
Jake Swartz delivered two insurance runs in the seventh with a 2-run double, and the RedWolves would get one more in the eighth.
The three runs allowed by the Bacon bullpen were the second, third, and fourth allowed on the season, and the loss snapped a three-game win streak.
The Bacon return home on Wednesday for a doubleheader versus the Savannah Bananas. Coverage starts at 5:45pm on cplbaseball.tv.
