Sizzlin’ Streak Comes To An End: July 20th

The Bacon saw their seven-game home winning streak snapped with a 7-2 loss to the visiting Savannah Bananas on Monday night at Luther Williams Field.

With the loss, Macon is now 9-6 in league play while Savannah improves to 7-7.

The home side started off hot, with Tyler Williams (Arkansas-Little Rock) lining a double on the very first pitch in the bottom of the 1st inning and Jordan Rathbone (UCF) doubling shortly thereafter to bring Williams in.

Savannah’s Ben Anderson reached third base on an error to lead off the 2nd inning and came home to score on a sacrifice fly from Cole Frederick to tie the game up at 1-1.

Macon grabbed the lead back in the 3rd inning when Freddy Achecar (BYU) worked a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-1, but the Bacon offense went cold after that, gathering just three hits over the final six innings.

On the other side, the Bananas broke things open with a three-run sixth inning and tacked on a run in each of the last three frames as well.

Four different Bananas pitchers combined to toss 14 strikeouts and limit Macon to their third-lowest run total of the summer.

Ty Bothwell (Indiana) had a dominant start on the mound for the Bacon but came away with a no-decision, going five innings while giving up just one hit and one unearned run with five strikeouts and one walk. Bothwell is currently fourth in the Coastal Plain League in strikeouts, with 21.

Landon Odom (Oral Roberts) took the loss on the mound for the Bacon.

The Bacon will have an off-day on Tuesday before returning to Luther Williams Field to begin a four-day stretch where they will play four home games in a row. The stretch gets kicked off with a matchup against the Macon Eggs on Wednesday night at 7:00pm.
